Overview

The Commercial Manager is responsible for leading the company’s commercial strategy and ensuring profitable growth while maintaining compliance with South African legislation and governance requirements. This role manages contracts, financial performance, risk, and client relationships.

Requirements – Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, Finance, Law or related field (MBA or further postgraduate qualification advantageous).
  • 7 to 10+ years’ experience in commercial contract management, preferably in South Africa.
  • Strong knowledge of South African commercial contract law.
  • Proven experience in tenders, pricing, and contract negotiations.
  • Excellent negotiation, leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven track record in leading tenders and contract negotiations (public and private sector).
  • Experience in compliance reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement commercial strategies to drive revenue growth and market share in South Africa.
  • Conduct market and competitor analysis to identify business opportunities and risks.
  • Support pricing strategies, proposals, bids, and tenders in line with client requirements and company profitability targets.
  • Draft, negotiate, and manage contracts with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Monitor project budgets, forecasts, cost control, and profitability reporting.
  • Ensure financial compliance with company policies, tax regulations, and auditing standards.
  • Oversee procurement processes.
  • Maintain strong client relationships across private sectors.
  • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate commercial and contractual risks.
  • Ensure compliance with South African legislation, including labour laws, and industry-specific regulations.
  • Lead and mentor a commercial team, fostering a culture of accountability and compliance.
